Community Meetings on
Housing Court Expansion Implementation
In the Fall 2017, the Massachusetts Law Reform Institute (MLRI), with local partners, convened a series of community meetings to start the conversation about Housing Court expansion implementation.
At each meeting, MLRI reviewed what the new law and current FY18 budget provide. Housing Court Chief Justice Timothy Sullivan spoke with members of the community about how the court works, his focus for the coming year, and considerations for where new courts will sit. Tenancy Preservation Program (TPP) providers spoke about how TPP works and what it needs to expand. Issued raised by members of the community included collaboration with local partners, transportation and language access, emergency code enforcement, and the need to expand the Tenancy Preservation Program and Lawyer for the Day Programs.
